Maitake (Grifola Frondosa)
Maitake, also known as “Dancing Mushroom” and “King of Mushrooms” is famous for its taste and health benefits. In ancient times, people who found Maitake could be seen dancing with joy as they were literally worth their weight in silver. Maitake has been used for hundreds of years in Japanese and Chinese medicine and is highly recognized for its many health promoting qualities. In 1975, Japanese farmers succeeded in cultivating high-quality organic Maitake mushrooms, allowing for wider availability worldwide.
Modern researchers have conducted numerous studies focusing on Maitake’s healing properties in regard to various types of immune system problems. Researchers believe the beta-glucan, a fibre-type complex sugar (polysaccharide), found in Maitake may be largely responsible for its immune activating properties.
